I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt
of your
letter of the 18th Instant with reference to the Water supply of Hong Kong. I have carefully studied the inclosures contained in your letter as well as the papers transmitted in yours of the 30th of March last and I have also had several conferences with Mr. Price on the subject
I am of opinion with regard to the Fire Tank Scheme that the contents of the tank should not be amalgamated with the general water supply of the Colony for the reasons set forth in the inclosed Report from Mr. Price who happens to have interpreted my views correctly,
so that I
do not find it necessary to supplement his remarks
by any
further statement of my own
3. With regard to the supply from the Tai-fu-lum Reservoir which is said to yield 50/4 Gallons per inhabitant daily during the dry Season, and 47 gallons during the wet Season, I consider this allowance falls far short of the requirements of a
